blue law

Ley estadounidense que reglamenta el trabajo, el comercio y las actividades de esparcimiento en los domingos.

Se dice que el término deriva de una lista de normas para el sabbat, publicadas en papel azul o con una sobrecubierta azul, en New Haven, Conn., en 1781. Durante la época colonial, en Nueva Inglaterra este tipo de leyes regulaba la conducta y la moral. La mayoría de ellas cayó en desuso después de la guerra de independencia de EE.UU., pero algunas, como la prohibición de vender bebidas alcohólicas en los domingos, siguen aplicándose en algunos lugares.
